Opening Acoustic Set ~ Eric Tweed
Eric TweedSecond Electric Set ~ Larry Dupio

It’s October and winter may be approaching, but there is plenty of blues in Portland to keep things heated for a long time to come. We’re going to do our best each and every month at our regular membership meetings always on the first Wednesday.

For October, we have a sensational young man opening the night with some very extraordinary fingerpicking and slide acoustic guitar. Eric Tweed’s website describes his music as “gorgeous songcraft with a swagger in its step.” A highly adept musician and songwriter, Eric Tweed captures his listeners with his imaginative stories while interacting with the audience. This is participation blues, so be prepared to become a part of the show yourself for a fun and lively set. Eric will be performing songs from his most recent release, “Not Again . . . You Fool,” all featuring instruments that he designed and built himself. If you haven’t caught Eric Tweed before, you’re going to be in for a truly nice, entertaining surprise.

Larry Dupio    If you have seen and heard Larry Dupio around town, or you saw him at the CBA membership picnic last August, one thing you can surely attest to, this man knows his way around a guitar. Having first picked up the instrument at the age of eight, he has been performing professionally for more than 40 years. Intrigued by musicians like Carlos Santana, a variety of blues and jazz guitarists and horn players, it was a meeting with Muddy Waters and his band that gave him his greatest inspiration as Muddy himself told Larry, “keep the blues alive!” Joining Larry for this appearance at The Melody Ballroom will be a stellar group of artists in their own right,: Frankie Redding on keys, Miyuki Hamanaka on bass and drummer Phillip Tucker. This is sure to be rousing set of outstanding guitar-fueled blues.

Of course we’ll also hold our monthly lucky ticket drawings, with everybody in attendance receiving a ticket as they enter the venue for a chance to win a variety of prizes. Feeling extra lucky? Or maybe you would just like to give a little something to help out the CBA and have a chance to win a multi-CD package at the same time. For just $1 a ticket, you could be that lucky person.

Hope to see you and all your friends at The Melody. We’re going to have our usual good time. Happy blues to you all!

Greg Johnson
CBA President
